Introduction
To classify its members by ranks is something currently very popular on
phpBB forums. For certain people, it's a simple means to recognize visually the members of a particular group, be it administrators or moderators. For others, the ranks represent a reward obtained by the number of messages one has posted on a forum.
phpBB forums make it possibly for you to manage all these aspects easily.
Installation
- Choose the rank pack of your choice among the hundreds that we offer you, and decompress the archive.
- Create a folder named
ranks/ in the directory phpBB2/images/, which will give you, if you followed the instructions well phpBB2/images/ranks/.
- In the directory
ranks/ that you just created, you are now going to insert the ranks that you wish to see attached.
Configuration
- Go in the administration panel and go to the section "
User Admin", heading "Ranks".
- Click on "
Add new rank". Give a title to your first rank, for example, "Moderator". Is it a special rank? Yes. Why? Because the rank of moderator doesn't vary based on the number of posts a user has. Thus, all ranks that don't change based on post count must be indicated as "special ranks". Don't put anything in the minimum number of posts box.
- Now, you must tell your phpBB forum where the rank's image is located. Enter this location:
images/ranks/name_of_rank.gif, while not forgetting to indicate well the image for the rank of "moderator" by naming it accordingly, reusing our previous example.
- Let's return for a bit to our different ranks. You now know how to create a special rank. For normal ranks, which vary depending on the number of posts by your members, you must do the same thing, without forgetting not to check the option "Set as Special Rank". Assign it then a name, for example, "new", enter a number of minimum posts, for example, "1", as well as the location of the rank, for example
images/ranks/nouveau.gif. So that this member of the rank "new" receives the rank of "regular", for example, create a non-special rank with as name "regular" with the number of messages of your choice necessary to obtain it, example "50?". As normal, you indicate the location of the rank like: images/ranks/name_of_rank.gif.

Conclusion
You now know how to install ranks. Now comes surely the hardest part. Choosing their names
